Trip Report: Parag's Hidden Valley

From David Mundie: The ramble was very well attended, and everyone enjoyed the walk, although no one saw a fox.

Ramble 2009-01-16: a Stroll in the Hidden Valley

Description: This Friday Parag will take us to a special spot he discovered southwest of Al-Wakhrah.

What to expect: A chain of low limestone hills with an array of multicoloured pebbles scattered all over. Desert foxes, kangaroo rats, birds, snakes, lizards, interesting rock formations, xerophylic plants.

Date: 2009-01-16

Time: 09:00. Leave about 35 minutes to get to Al-Wakrah from Doha.

Ramble Time: About two and a half hours. Expected time back in Doha is 12:30.

Meeting Place: The showroom of the Cadillac and Hummer dealer just 50 m to the right after the first roundabout in Wakrah.

Vehicles: Four-wheel drive is necessary. There is no loose sand to get stuck in, but the approach is pretty stony. As always, carpooling is encouraged, and there are always enough seats, so if you don't have a 4WD, come to the meeting point in your sedan and we'll sort the seating out there.

What to bring: The usual: snacks, sunscreen, hat, water, binoculars, GPS, camping chairs.

FAQ: This sounds like Al-Kharrara; is it? The truth is, we're not sure. We believe that it is near Kharrara, but not the same spot we rambled in earlier.

Leader: Parag Parelkar. Please call Parag at 559 5245 if you have questions.
