October Ramble#1: October Big Day – Bird watching and sea shells
Friday, October 7th 2022
We warmly welcome you to kick-start our new season with a Friday sunrise ramble to the Wakra beach! Fall migration is taking place right now and we will join hands with world community in observing and recording the birds
Gathering Place and Time: We will meetup at 5:15 around the beach side parking of Al Wakrah Public Garden. Exact location will be shared with confirmed participants
Sunrise will be at 5:28
Duration: 2-3 hours
Trip Leaders & Coordinators: Omar Bin Abdul Aziz,
Include your name, membership number and status, number of participants, and phone number (and WhatsApp number if different).
We will start our ramble with views of the sunrise. We will then stroll around the beach and next to the mangroves searching for wading birds, crabs and shells. We expect to see herons, plovers of all sorts, sand pipers, oyster catchers, turnstones, curlews, etc. We will also see what kind of shells are spread across the beach.
- Omar Bin Abdul Aziz Bio
A birding enthusiast by day, an astronomer by night and an engineer in between. Behind me are hundreds of pinhole projections of the eclipsed sun from Doha earlier in 2020. I'm proud to live with my 8 inch telescope, a bunch of cameras, a bicycle and three daughters!
What to Bring
- Hat and sunscreen, beach shoes as we may wade a bit in the water.
Please wear light cloths. It will start getting hot around one hour after sunrise.
Plenty of water and snacks.
Binoculars, camera and birding book will be useful (Hint: in order to avoid mist on your binocular or camera lens, remove the lid from it while driving to the park, turn the car AC off and open your car windows)
Notice: Please remember that every person attending the Ramble is responsible for their well-being and safety. Make sure to carry you QID and Ehtaraz App. As Covid restrictions are in place, we do not encourage potluck.
