May Ramble: Visit to Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum
Saturday June 23rd, 2018
QNHG members are invited to join us on a guided tour of this fascinating museum containing everything from fossils to aeroplanes. Even if you are not a fan of museums in general, you will love the informality of Sheikh Faisal’s personal collection built up since boyhood.
Gathering time and place:
The museum is approximately 40 kilometres west of Doha. It is located on Al Samriya St, location 25.351485 51.259753 Your sat-nav may direct you off the Dukhan road at a junction undergoing roadworks. If an exit is not possible here, follow the exit to the camel racing track, but go right around the roundabout and head back towards Doha before turning off to the museum on the right.
Cost: 20 QR, free ( under 18)
Access is via tarmacked roads, so no 4x4 issues. Make sure you have enough petrol. Bring some water. Unfortunately, café facilities are limited to a drinks machine, so bring some small riyal notes. You are welcome to continue looking around after the official tour finishes.
Bags should be deposited either in your vehicles, or in the storage lockers, which are free. They do not allow cameras, but mobile phones are OK
