Gathering Place and Time
If you ever thought that the desert doesn’t have a forest, or that the desert is a barren landscape devoid of wildlife, or if you are just looking for an excuse to enjoy nature, please join us in this wilderness exploration in one of the most majestic and hidden natural treasures of Qatar. Desert ecologist Dr. Aspa D. Chatziefthimiou, will guide us in crossing mangrovial forests from the sabkha to the open Gulf, and through fun activities she will let us in on the formation of these ecosystems and on the secret lives of the organisms that inhabit Umm Tais from the small and mighty microbes to the tall and elegant herons.
We will have a chance to swim in the Gulf waters and have our lunch there, before departing. Depending on the tide on the day, we might get wet up to waist length, so it is advisable to wear a swim suit under your clothes. Some parts of the area are rocky and covered by thick sediment so it is advisable to wear wet shoes.
What to bring with you: a hat, a snack, lunch, plenty of water, your swim suit, wet shoes, sun-screen, towels, and a change of clothes
4x4 cars are not required for this tour.
The event is open to the public. The fee for joining is QR 30 per person.
