With thanks to the Education City Golf Club (ECGC) management team, we have kindly been invited to visit the back 9 holes of the Education City Championship Golf Course on Saturday morning. We are starting early at 06.00am (dawn) to get the maximum birding time before members reach the back 9 holes. We have been asked to show members all courtesy and to avoid any potential inconvenience to club members who will be playing through. We expect the golfers to reach the back 9 holes by around 08.30am when we will leave.
Upon arrival, our host will direct us from Staging for the short walk onto the 12th hole. We will then follow the cart path through the course in sequence and concluding on the 18th hole. This will probably take us at least 2 hours. The ECGC team have recommended we pay particular attention to the areas around holes 13/15/18 holes where they have areas of habitat where the course superintendent minimizes manpower and interference. A previous bird count at the ECGC yielded 35 species including many shrikes and wheatears.
We have been asked to share the bird list and a group photo so we can put out a joint ECGC-QNHG press release. It would be great if we could get some good photos of birds on the course for the management team.
QNHG recommends the eBird app from The Cornell Lab of Ornithology to record observations (see https://ebird.org/home).
