August Rambles: Sunset & Sunrise Walks

The government has started the 3rd Phase of easing the restrictions., and it’s now possible to have small group outings, respecting the social distancing measures.

We’re therefore very happy to propose a few events to enjoy the outdoors.

  • Masks and Ethiraz app will be mandatory.
  • Due to the circumstances, we won’t promote carpooling, nor potluck
  • Registration is required since we have a limited number of participants.

01/08 Dahl Al Misfr cave Sunset Meet at 5:00 pm
An opportunity to explore one of Qatar’s geological curiosities and the rawdat nearby.

07/08 Purple island Sunrise walk - Meet at 4:45 am
A very early start for this one, but it should be a nice exploration through the mangrove and on the island.

12/08 Stargazing in the desert - Sunset and/or evening.
Hani Dalee invites us to witness a spectacular meteor shower : The Perseids.

Based on the demand, we’ll probably have some more sunset and sunrise walks in the 2nd half of August. Camping is also an option. As always, your suggestions are welcome.

We’re also happy to share a survey prepared by a high school student (UWC Maastricht) for an assignment she has to do for environmental science. It is a research on the Environmental Attitude of Qatar’s residents, both expats and Qataris.

14/08 : Sunrise Walk in some rawdats. Central Qatar.

Rawdats are small depressions in the desert, where sediments and water tend to accumulate. Vegetation develops in these areas, and supports a rich biodiversity: many birds (doves, shrikes, francolins…), reptiles, insects, desert hares, hedgehogs...

Meeting at 4:45. Duration 1h30 min. 4x4 is not necessary.
