Chairwoman’s note: Our talk this month is given by treasured QNHG member Marcello Terzano. He and his family have been in Qatar since 1981. Not only have they seen Qatar change, they have been a part of that change. Their passion for the country has not waned in those many years. I have heard tales of their amazing road trip and I look forward to hearing and seeing more about a journey that in our lifetimes is not likely to ever be a possibility of replicating again. This will be a true tale of adventure and exploration that no one should miss. See you on February 7th!

Speakers: Marcello Terzano

Synopsis of talk

From Marcello: The talk is about a land trip, mainly off-road that I took with my family in the summer of 2001 journeying from Qatar to mid-Europe and back. We visited 5 seas (Arabian, Red, Dead, Mediterranean and Black), and 15 Countries, some of them no longer are open to tourism. During the talk, I will share photos, memories and impressions regarding the cultural and ecological marvels we discovered.

Short biography

During his early professional days, Marcello had a strong connection with the Italian Red Cross, which still influences his practical daily life, and the WWF. Marcello practiced marine design and construction for part of his career and industrial design for the majority of his career, following in the steps of his inventor father. He has been in Qatar since 1981 with the same sponsor, whom he considers his extended family. He is a passionate proponent of sustainable development and has been a member of the Qatar Natural History Group since 1997
