Synopsis of talk #1
Mega sporting events have distinct impacts on their host countries. During this talk, the general background to the 2022 FIFA World Cup QatarTM will be presented. Emphasis will be given to the ways we are making our stadiums sustainable through their design, construction and operation as well as the considerations underway for hosting the actual event.
Dr. Talar Sahsuvaroglu biography
Since starting her role in 2013, Dr. Talar Sahsuvaroglu has been involved with the sustainability and environmental requirements of the stadiums being constructed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™. Now her work is focused on implementing the Tournament’s Sustainability Strategy to meet the mission and vision of the State of Qatar and FIFA. She is also passionate about teaching and supporting community development.
Dr. Sahsuvaroglu received her Bachelor of Environmental Health from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Following a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management in Greece. She received her Ph.D. in Health Geography from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, where her research focused on estimating variations in air pollution exposure and the consequent identification of health impacts.
Synopsis of talk #2 - short presentation
On the occasion of the rare Annular Solar Eclipse taking place at the time of sunrise on December 26th, 2019 here in Qatar, the Astronomer Mr. Hani Dalee will provide an overview of the phenomenon in a mini presentation. Sun shades for safe watching will be gifted to all attendees.
Mr Hani biography
Mr. Hani Dalee is an Astronomer holding a Master’s Degree in Astrophysics from Jordan. He was one of the founding members of both The Jordanian Astronomical Society and the Arab Union for Astronomy & Space Science. He moved to Doha to supervise the program called “Fascination Astronomy” run by QEERI at HBKU, in which he trained students of the Qatari Team for the International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics that took place in India in December 2016. He visits schools for outreach and he with his team, organize the annual Qatar National Astronomy Olympiads, a competition devoted for the schools.
