Synopsis:
Through the means of photographs taken by the speaker during travels in the Indian subcontinent, the talk will present typologies of water structures with steps. Designed to tap, contain and replenish water in the medieval era, stepwells also served as public spaces to safely access water. The talk is based on an essay written by the speaker for the recently published book ‘The Forgotten Stepwells of Telangana’.
Speaker Bio
Sneha Parthasarathy is Co-Founder and Principal Architect at deccan amalgam (2016), a Hyderabad-based architecture and urban design studio. More recently she was offered the position of Principal Architect at DMS Qatar and has already assumed her role at the design studio. She has a Master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Architecture from ETSAB, UPC, Barcelona. She is co-author of a research publication titled ‘The Forgotten Stepwells of Telangana’. Her design studio has also worked on the preparation of masterplan reports for various lake and water body restoration projects in Hyderabad. She also actively volunteers and participates in environmental initiatives in Hyderabad and Doha.
