Ramble Summary
Birds Global Big Day
We have arranged a ramble to share our passion for birding on October Big Day. October Big Day is a global appreciation of the birds that share our world. By participating in October Big Day we’re also celebrating Global Bird Weekend and World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD): observing bird species for citizen science! All three campaigns have the shared aim of raising awareness about bird migration, habitat conservation and recording the birds we see to help protect them worldwide.
Citizen sightings provide the crucial data needed to drive the international cooperation critical to protecting birds, and the habitats they depend on, on their migrations across borders.
The 2024 World Migratory Bird Day campaign asks for our focus on the insects that are so critical to successful bird migration, amidst the concern about decreasing insect and bird populations worldwide. Thus, this ramble is also a chance to observe insects and invites our discussion about insect conservation as it related to bird migration.
