Ramble Summary
The ramble will start at Al Jassasiya Rock Art Site. After receiving general information about rock art and its preservation, protection, and management in Al Jassasiya each ramble participants will receive a block with the location and drawings of previously recorded rock art. The participants will be requested to reidentify the carvings and photograph them with the specific number from the documentation they received. By the end of the ramble, we will discuss about the current stage of preservation of the rock art in Al Jassasiya.
Trip Leader Bio
(Dr. Ferhan Sakal)
Dr. Ferhan Sakal is an archaeologist with over 30 years of field experience in Western Asia and Europe. Before moving to Qatar, he worked for several excavation projects in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Germany and was field director of several excavation and survey projects, as well as a teaching fellow at the University of Tübingen (Germany). He published several books, editions and articles mostly on chronology, funerary archaeology, archaeological excavations, and material studies. Since 2013 he works for Qatar Museums and currently holds the position Head of Excavation and Site Management at the Department of Archaeology.

Dr Treena Bron is a geologist (BScHon, PhD) with expertise in sedimentology, petroleum geology, planetary geology and environment. She has worked in research, industry and academia and done fieldwork worldwide from Africa to Canada, from Arctic to Outback. She is a passionate naturalist & environmental advocate.

A birding enthusiast by day, an astronomer by night and an engineer in between. Behind me are hundreds of pinhole projections of the eclipsed sun from Doha earlier in 2020. I’m proud to live with my 8 inch telescope, a bunch of cameras, a bicycle and three daughters!
